Whilst Newhill Farm Cottages are located in Fife, we are situated in the North West area, so we are highly accessible for the extensive range of visitor attractions in Perthshire and beyond. Here are just a few ideas:
Perth makes a lovely day out
Sightseeing – Within the City of Perth, there are many fine historic buildings; St. John’s Kirk, The Fair Maid’s House, Huntingtower Castle and The Black Watch Castle and Museum. Branklyn Gardens in Perth, one of the finest private gardens in Scotland. North of Perth is Scone Palace, the crowning place of Scottish Kings. Nearby Stanley Mills gives an experience of working life at the mill. Within about a 40-60 minute drive are Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument, Bannockburn Battlefield, Glamis Castle, Loch Leven Castle and Kinross House and Gardens.
National Tourist Routes – The Deeside Tourist Route runs for 107 miles between Perth and Aberdeen. The Perthshire Tourist route is 45 miles from Dunblane to Pitlochry. The Perth Millennium Route takes you from Perth to Aberfeldy. The Angus Coastal Route from Dundee to Aberdeen runs north along some of the most stunning coastal scenery in Scotland.
Wildlife – Blair Drummond Safari Park (near Stirling), Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre (near Comrie), Loch Leven Nature Reserve and RSPB Visitor Centre.
Golfing – There are numerous excellent golf courses in Perthshire, with Gleneagles – the latest host course of The Ryder Cup probably the best known.
Fishing – There are many lochs, rivers and fisheries in Perthshire, with fishing on the River Tay, Loch Tay, Loch Katrine, Butterstone Loch, Piperdam Fishery.
Walking – Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park to the east of Perth includes the five hills, Corsiehill, Deuchny Hill, Barn Hill, Binn Hill and Kinnoull Hill. Rising sharply from the banks of the River Tay in Perth, Kinnoull Hill is the highest of the five hills and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Loch Leven Heritage Trail.
Skiing in the winter and walking and cycling in the summer
Skiing – The Glenshee slopes are 2 hours drive. There are two dry ski slopes within easy reach; Tillicoultry and Edinburgh, both with instructional classes and ski hire.
Active Outdoors – Highland Safaris, Nae Limits Adventure Sports, Blown Away Experiences. Why not try Quad Biking, White Water Rafting or Lazer Quest.
Shopping – Perth has an extensive range of high street shops, plus more individual outlets. The Sterling Mills designer outlet village is at Tillicoultry (23 miles). Edinburgh is within easy reach by car/train. The House of Bruar (52 miles).
Antiques – Rait Antiques Centre and Scottish Antique Centre at Abernyte.
Distilleries – The Famous Grouse Experience in Crieff, Tullibardine Distillery in Blackford, Edradour Distillery near Pitlochry, Dewar’s Aberfeldy World of Whisky and Bell’s Blair Athol Distillery Visitor Centre..
Eating Out – There are some excellent restaurants in Perth; Cafe Tabou, The Bothy, Grand Italia, Sante Wine Bar, 63 Tay Street and many more.
Farm Shops – Loch Leven’s Larder Farm Shop/Deli/Restaurant (Nr Kinross) and Gloagburn Farm Shop/Cafe (Nr Perth).
Theatre – Perth Theatre & Concert Hall, Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
Children’s Play Centres – Active Kids Adventure Park near Stanley.
