Golf Courses: There are more than 50 golf courses in the Kingdom of Fife, all within easy access of Auchtermuchty. St. Andrews, the heart of the Royal and Ancient game, has a choice of 8 courses and is only 30 minutes away.

Watersports – Hire and instruction of windsurfers, dinghies, canoes, water skiing, pedalos. All available at Elie. Blast Away also offer sand surfing and other more exhilarating activities on St Andrews West Sands Beach.

Driving Experiences: (St. Andrews, Kirkcaldy, Cowdenbeath, Strathmiglo) – Quad biking, off road driving, indoor karting centre, racing/rally cars, motorcycle track days, all within easy driving distance

Fishing: Excellent trout fishing is available on Loch Leven. Golden Loch at Lindores. Raith Lake Trout Fishery at Kirkcaldy.

Beaches: West and East Sands in St. Andrews, Tentsmuir Nature Reserve with its fabulous dunes and wildlife. The East Neuk coastline with its choice of 25 beaches.

Clay Pigeon Shooting: (Largo, Kirkcaldy, Leuchars) – There are various specialist venues offering Clay Pigeon/Target shooting with the nearest one being Cluny Clays near Kirkcaldy.

Horse Riding: (Collessie, Craigrothie, Leuchars) – Lessons and trekking for adults and children.

Swimming/Leisure Centres: –There are four in the area with easy driving distance– Levenmouth Swimming Pool, East Sands Leisure Centre, St Andrews, Cupar Sports Centre and Fife Institute of Recreation in Glenrothes.

Walking: – There are numerous local walks in Pitmedden Forset, available from your door step. There are also an abundance of walks in and around the region. The Fife Coastal Path is particularly extensive, with local bus transport to return you to your starting point. Nearby Falkland Estate has many miles of walking and cycling paths. The Lomond Hills (East & West) provide some more strenuous hill walking experiences. Please see the walking books/maps provided in your cottage.

Quad Biking: – Many of the Activity Centres, such as Cluny Clays and Newton Hill Country Sports offer this facility.

Cycling: – The Kingdom of Fife Cycle Way has a network of over 300 miles of dedicated cycle tours offering something for everyone, including an 8.5mile off – road section along a disused railway line.

Mountain Biking: Pitmedden Forest on your door step has an excellent reputation for mountain biking and hosts the annual Muckmedden 2 day mountain bike competition.

VISITOR ATTRACTIONS

Deep Sea World: – (North Queensferry)– come face to face with one of Europe’s largest collections of sharks in one of the world’s longest underwater tunnels.

Discovery Point: – (Dundee) – step aboard the Royal Research Ship Discovery and see how Scott and his crew survived for 2 years locked in the ice.

Scotland’s Secret Bunker :- (Crail) – discover the twilight world of the cold war government and how they would have survived 100ft underground, hidden beneath a Scottish farmhouse.

Scottish Deer Centre: (Cupar) – encounter a stag or view some magnificent European wolves – the park has nine species of deer, falconry displays, bird of prey centre, otters, bears and a tree top walk way.

Isle of May: – take a boat trip from Anstruther to view large colonies of sea birds and grey seals.

Loch Leven: – Daily boat trips to the Castle, situated on an island. The castle was prison to Mary Queen of Scots in 1567. Loch Leven Heritage Trail allows you to walk around the whole loch (13 mile). Visit RSPB Loch Leven Nature Reserve where there are hides to view the birds up close, plus a shop and cafe.

Historic Buildings & Sites: – plenty of local choice – all within a 25 mile radius.

St. Andrews Castle, St. Andrews Cathedral, Falkland Palace and Gardens, Hill of Tarvit Mansionhouse and Gardens, Kellie Castle and Garden, Cambo Gardens, Scotstarvit Tower, St Fillan’s Caves, St Monans Windwill, St Athernase Church, Balmerino Abbey, Culross Palace.

Distilleries & Breweries: – Eden Mill Distillery, Lindores Abbey Distillery, Kingsbarns Distillery and St. Andrews Brewing Company are within easy reach. Tours & Tastings usually available

Great Days Out with The Children: – Nearby, there is Cairnie Fruit Farm & Mega Maze, The Scottish Deer Centre, Birnie & Gaddon Lochs, Dundee Science Museum and Craigtoun Country Park.
